Project: City Wide Flow Improvement
Type: Civil
Client: City of Key West

Among the top concerns of the City of Key West is the protection of its infrastructure vital to the region’s tourist economy. Key West experiences high levels of flooding most times it rains. To ameliorate this condition, G. M. Selby designed multiple major drainage flow-ways for the city’s overall drainage.

As a turn-key project, it required in-depth civil and environmental disciplines to be used in order to successfully complete and permit the entire project. We, therefore, provided civil engineering and design services as well as environmental engineering and permitting.

Detailed site surveys and UMAMs were prepared together with mitigation reports, design drawings, design memoranda for permitting and preparation of all bidding documents. As design engineers, G. M. Selby assisted the City in the planning and design of a long-term mitigation site which incorporates multiple facets of a negotiated agreement with the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority and the Us Army Corps of Engineers. The mitigation plan utilized various State and Federal methodologies to determine the value of the mitigation.
