Project: PortMiami Bulkhead Wall Inspections
Type: Coastal/Marine
Client: PortMiami – Miami-Dade County
PortMiami is Miami-Dade County’s second most important economic engine, contributing $41.4 billion annually to the local economy and supporting more than 324,352 jobs in South Florida. Following years of damage and corrosion, PortMiami required information relating to the structural stability and integrity of the Port’s bulkhead walls and associated infrastructure and hardware.
G.M. Selby, under Arcadis US as a prime consultant, was selected and contracted to perform engineering services as part of the Port’s Management Financial Consulting and Bond Engineering Services contract. GM Selby’s responsibility was to perform all underwater and top side inspections of the structural bulkhead and associated hardware. Overall deficiencies included: concrete cracks, exposed rebar, large area of corroded sheet piles, missing fenders, corroded bollards, debris at the ocean bottom adjacent to seawall. Following damage assessment, a comprehensive review of necessary repairs was compiled. Using this review, PortMiami was able to implement necessary changes to maintain structural integrity.
