Project: FEMA Drainage & Roadway Restorations
Type: Civil
Client: Miami-Dade ERM – Regulatory & Economic Resources Department

Following severe flooding caused by Hurricane Irene and additional  “no-name” storms, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM), funds in order to restore local roadways and drainage systems damaged as a result of severe flooding. Aside from the repair of damaged roadways, the main scope of the project included improvements of existing drainage systems an the addition of new drainage systems to alleviate future flooding.

As engineers on this project our principal responsibility was the design of drainage for road segments approved for restoration by FEMA. Cost estimates, geotechnical reports, drainage calculations and the preparation of construction drawings were but a part of the scope of work. Over 60 sites were designed.
