Project: Crandon Park Tennis Center
Type: Electrical
Client: Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation
Located within Crandon Park Beach are the Crandon Park Golf Course and the Crandon Park Tennis Center, home to the Miami Open Tennis Tournament. Owned and operated by Miami-Dade County, this sports complex houses 26 courts, 13 of them and the Grand Stand are lighted.
G.M. Selby designed the new lighting upgrades to the courts, including the design of Hydraulic Telescopic Light Poles, the piston powered grandstand lighting, and the upgrade and/or replacement of electrical service panels. The lighting design in this project meets the standards of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and accommodates for lighting necessary for TV broadcasts. Special consideration was taken to adhere to Key Biscayne’s planning and zoning regulations. This was a multi-discipline project where we performed all engineering services, to include electrical, civil, structural, geotechnical, and environmental. Project management and construction monitoring were also provided.
As part of the overall project of designing new illumination for the courts, we designed all associated electrical systems to accommodate two levels of illumination, one for tournament levels and another for non-tournament as needed with a flick of a switch.
